Heather Cook, Advisor

Heather Cook has served as Assistant District Attorney for the city of Houston since 2012.  Born in Enid, Oklahoma, she came to Texas as fast as she could, moving to Fort Worth at age 2, and to Houston at age 4.  Aside from her short time in Oklahoma and college years in San Antonio, she has lived in the Houston area.  She graduated from Cypress Creek High School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and earned a Biology degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.  In her past life before having her own children, Heather worked as an AMS certified Montessori elementary school teacher and school administrator.  After having her first child she volunteered for six years with La Leche League Int’l., running a local support group for nursing mothers in northwest Houston and serving as an annual conference registrar.  Prior to attending law school, Heather and her husband, Jason, volunteered as guardian’s ad litem for Child Advocates, Inc., for approximately six years.  She was also a Girl Scout member, volunteer, and Cookie Mom. Heather describes herself as a “mid-life crisis” lawyer, because she attended law school full time, worked multiple part-time jobs, and earned a law degree in 2011 with the support of her very patient husband, Jason, and their three daughters.  Since 2014 she and her family have volunteered for Navidad en el Barrio, a non-profit organization primarily focused on providing disadvantaged Houston area children with a Christmas they might not otherwise have.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors. Heather’s life and career have long focused on the needs of children and community, and she looks forward to continuing that service through the great works of Inspiring Hands and the IH Award Selection Committee.
